Finding My Lane: Why I'm All In On Residential Construction

Ever feel like you've taken a few detours in life? Yeah, me too. For years, I chased the direction of whoever was writing the checks – employers, clients, you name it. That took me all over the map, dabbling in different aspects of construction and real estate. But you know what? Residential construction has always been my true north.

Now, don't get me wrong. I've learned a ton from every experience, even the ones that didn't quite pan out. There was that one time I jumped into a market that just wasn't the right fit – let's just say I learned quickly what not to do! And another time, young and eager, I jumped at an opportunity that seemed too good to be true... and it was. Over my head and learning a lot about myself and people in general. Through it all, I kept my hand in the game, always keeping up with my continuing education in building science and home construction best practices. It was like a hobby that fueled me, even when I wasn't actively working in the field.

See, for me, residential construction is personal. It's not just about bricks and mortar. It's about people. It's about those real, authentic connections you make with families who are about to embark on something huge – building their dream home. And that dream means something different to every single person.

I know, some people say you shouldn't mix business and personal stuff. But let's be real, building a home is personal. It's an emotional journey as much as it is a financial one. And when you're working with someone on something this significant, you can't help but connect on a human level.

I've been thinking a lot lately about what truly makes me happy. And honestly? It's building homes. It's the satisfaction of seeing a project come together, knowing that I've helped a family create a space where they'll make memories for years to come. It's a feeling you just can't get from other types of construction.

So, that's why I'm focusing on one lane now. Residential construction. It's where my heart is, it's where my skills are strongest, and it's where I can make the biggest difference. I'm tired of chasing the next big thing or getting caught up in the rat race. I want to do what I love, and I want to do it with integrity and passion.

My career and my life have thrown its share of challenges my way, like anyone else. But those challenges have shaped me, they've taught me resilience, and they've made me appreciate the things that truly matter. And now, I'm ready to pour all that experience, all that passion, into helping families in my community build their dream homes. I'm committed to keeping my fees as low as possible, so their budget goes where it belongs: into their house.

I'm Tim Weatherly, and at Generation Neutral Construction, LLC (GenN), I build durable and comfortable custom homes for just 10% above my builder cost.
